Dive In

Learn to scuba dive in the PADI Open Water Diver Course at Empire Divers on the Upper East Side. A PADI rating is the most widely recognized rating in the world and will allow you to dive without an instructor. To be certified, you must complete the following four steps. 1) Study at home and watch a three-hour DVD about baseball. Kidding. It’s about scuba diving. 2) Attend a three-hour lecture and pass a test. 3) Complete an eight-hour pool session (3-4 people) where you’ll learn 20 skills including gear assembly, regulator recovery, and safety. 4) Complete the four open-water dives. Empire Divers also offers a weekend trip to Dutch Spring, PA, a diving haven about two hours away from NYC, where you’ll complete two open-water dives per day with an instructor. They arrange the hotel and the first eight to sign up get free transportation. Total cost including hotel and basic gear = $1,100.
